3 Ridiculously Expensive Creams That Are Totally Worth It

As we've been getting older—gracefully and gleefully, WE MIGHT ADD—our skin likes to consistently freak out on us. Chemicals, alcohol, essential oils—you name it, they're all triggers for a full-facial breakout that reups a whole new months-long healing period. Our skin can be a real picky d-bag when it comes to skincare. It's hard to manage and stay on top of. It's also difficult to find all-in-one creams that can make us look like we slept more than 4 hours last night (#lifeofahustler), heal our schizo skin, and moisturize without poking the bear that is our persnickety epidermis.

So, we decided it may be time to throw some money at the problem. And we went luxury cream. Gasp.

Look, your 30's are basically one gigantic "Upgrade, me!" period. It was time. Plus, there's gotta be a reason so many people swear by them, right? We scoured the web and compiled some of the best-reviewed luxury skincare concoctions, and even tried some ourselves (God bless the beauty publicists of the world) to find three that, if you're really going to splurge, will be worth your hard-earned pennies.

The Classic: Créme de La Mer The Moisturizing Cream

Price tag: $310 for 2 oz. (or "Bananas expensive," as Jessica Alba puts it)

The Results: Umm, have you seen the faces of La Alba, Cara Delevigne, Blake Lively or literally anyone on camera that looks flawless? That's because they use this stuff. Case closed. Why so good? Think insane amount of moisturization, which does you a solid by helping skin maintain the necessary functions to keep it looking fresh. Add a dewy finish and you're ready to take on the day. Well, at least you'll look the part.

The Cult Fave: Clé de Peau Beauté La Créme

Price tag: A whopping $775 for 1.8 oz.

The Results: Ever wonder how some of these lovely ladiesin Hollywood never seem to sport dark circles under their eyes? That's becuase their make-up artist probably knows the beauty secret that is Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer. So it's no surprise that the line's ultra-rich moisturizing cream has a similar fanship. Tester Christiana Molina over at Allure got her hands on a sampler and determined "after just one use, skin feels softer and looks brighter. Blotchiness is neutralized, and the face is noticeably firmer. Fine lines even start to diminish over time."

Miracle Worker: La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Cream Sheer (Available September 2015)

Price tag: $430 for 1.7 oz.

The results: Fine lines filled. Ever-so-slight smile-line folds relaxed. Forehead creases ceased. Smoother overall skin surface. Dark spots faded. What's even more brilliant, is that it accomplishes all of this in a lightweight formula that doesn't clog pores, make you break out, or kickstart rampant oil production (it's the brand's tried-and-true Skin Caviar Luxe Cream redone, in a lighter formula specifically for this reason). And it's suuuuuuper hydrating. Score.

Added bonus: This particular La Prairie product works its magic sans parabens and other no-no's that we try to avoid in our beauty products.

Ok, so "worth it" is a relative term. Spending all your rent money on some peptides may not be the most adult-responsible move. However, if you're looking at this as an investment in your self, well, then... these are our very official and expert suggestions (that our financial advisor would fire us for) that get the job done.
