Don't Go Another Day Without Loving Yourself

The most important relationship you have in your life is the one you have with yourself.

And, for many people, this type of relationship is one that’s hard to maintain — it’s easy to get inside of your own head and think negatively, after all.

This year, it’s time to break the cycle of self-doubt and dislike.

Instead, heed the following seven tips to cultivate the best and most loving relationship you’ve ever had with yourself.

Self-love is in this year, and it will make 2016 the best one yet.

Trust Your Instincts

When you have a tough decision to make, you might look to family members and friends to help you weigh your options. It’s great to have such a support system around you, but it’s even better to let yourself choose what’s best. In reality, you probably already know the answer to your dilemma, but outside support gives you the extra push you need to say “yes” or “no.” Imagine how great you’ll feel about you if you make the decision all on your own and it ends up being the right one.

Sweat It Out

Exercise makes us feel fantastic, and for many reasons. Not only does it stimulate your brain to make you feel happier and more relaxed, but it can also help you achieve a more physically fit feeling. The former is the most important benefit, of course, but loving yourself inside and out encompasses your body, too. Regular exercise will help you to achieve that level of self-love faster.

Let the Negatives Inspire You

We all make mistakes and we all wish that we could go back in time to reverse them. Since this isn’t a choice, you should instead start letting your regrettable decisions inspire you in the future. You can certainly allow yourself to feel the disappointment after, say, an interview gone wrong or a date gone awkward. Then, figure out how to make the situation better next time and you’ll definitely nail it — and feel pretty great about yourself afterward, too.

Love the Skin You’re In

Your face is likely the first thing that others will notice and remember about you, which is why skincare is an important part of any practice in self-love. The simplest of regimental changes can improve the appearance of your skin, while preventative steps can shield your skin from the signs of aging that so many of us dread. Once you get in the habit, it’s easy to keep up with your new daily skincare ritual, too, and the glowing visage you achieve as a result will only further inspire you to do so.

Stay Fresh

This has nothing to do with a hot shower and everything to do with the foods you eat. A diet that includes processed foods high in sugar, fat and simple carbohydrates can have all sorts of negative side effects — junk food has even been linked to stronger feelings of depression. If you’re looking to build a stronger relationship with yourself, you have to usher in a diet rich in healthy, whole foods, like fresh produce, whole grains, healthy fats and energizing proteins. Not only will your body be healthier, but you’ll also feel better about you, knowing that you’re eating only the best.

Be Good At What You Do

Your job is likely a big part of who you are, especially considering how much time you spend doing it each week. That’s why it should be something that you feel that you’re really good at. This confidence will only serve to improve your workplace performance, which will improve your standing at the office, which will make you feel pretty great about you. If you haven’t found your niche yet, give yourself the opportunity to explore new career avenues that might suit your skill and mindset better.

Say “No” to Negativity

Your brain can’t help but wander, but don’t let it go to a negative place. Instead, be assertive over your thoughts and attitudes and keep yourself in a positive mindset. If you nip bad vibes in the bud, you will find yourself lighter and happier and, therefore, a little bit more in love with life and with yourself than ever.

Clearly, this isn’t an exhaustive list of the ways to love yourself this year and beyond, and there are probably more ways than seven for you to feel great in 2016.

However, these tips provide you with a jumping off point for the self-esteem that you seek and, with a little bit of focused effort each day, you can knock all seven of them down with ease.

All you’ll have left to do is sit back and reap the benefits of your efforts — we bet you won’t mind that self-love feeling at all.
