This 27-Year-Old Trend Editor Could Be The Reason You Go Comfy-Chic Next Spring

Meet Vanessa Weste, Trend Editor and resident cool girl at Fashion Snoops, a trend forecasting agency that zeros in on what's cool, what's hot, and what's coming. What does that mean, exactly?

That means Fashion Snoops is prooobably the reason you're wearing that third-knuckle ring right now. And I'd say there's a strong chance Vanessa had something to do with that decision.

At Fashion Snoops, your girl V Weste sources the best in street style inspiration from around the world to make your fashion blog and Pinterest game even stronger, and is now also working on a new initiative surrounding culture and its impact on our lifestyle and what we wear.

Like, she is in the know, ya know?

We caught up with this #boss of a 27-year-old after her whirlwind global Fashion Week tour -- New York, London, Paris, Milan, you know the drill -- to real talk about what it takes to succeed in fashion trend forecasting, the looks you'll most def be interpreting next spring, and the latest beauty product she's obsessed with.

This one was so good, I didn't want the convo to end.

Trend Editor sounds pretty awesome. What does your job entail?

Every day is different for me here at Fashion Snoops. I manage our street style section, so during Fashion Weeks and festival season I am busy pulling trends from all the looks I receive from my photographers. During New York Fashion Week I am out on the street shooting street style, and just this past season I made my way to London and Paris for their Fashion Weeks to shoot street style as well. In addition to maintaining this section I also head up our video production where I produce little 1 -2 minute trend trailers to sum up our visionary and forecasting trends across all sections. I also contribute to our consulting projects, as well as assemble Youth forecasts in conjunction with our Youth Director. Fashion Snoops developed a Culture section this past year that highlights everything from new tech products, store openings, art exhibits, culture movements and lifestyle trends, so I also work closely with our Culture Director to head-up a few of these posts.

What was your experience prior to Fashion Snoops?

After high school I moved to Vancouver, BC, Canada, to attend a fashion school called Blanche Macdonald. Following this, I bounced around working various jobs in the fashion industry -- I sourced textiles for Aritzia, managed a men's clothing store, worked as a stylist and finally a brand manager at a wholesale company before deciding to make the move to New York to attend The Fashion Institute of Technology. During my internship at Fashion Snoops I worked for the online trend and culture magazine TRENDLAND before I started full-time with Fashion Snoops upon graduating from FIT.

What's the best part of the job?

The amount of creative freedom I am given and the ability to travel. I am also very fortunate to work with an amazing team that challenges me creatively daily.

What type of personality would you say would thrive in this role?

Someone who is incredibly outgoing, has a keen eye and the ability to let their mind wander and see past the obvious.

How has your experience as Trend Editor at Fashion Snoops made you grow professionally? Personally?

I have always been a creative person, but my experience at Fashion Snoops has broadened my knowledge of other industries besides fashion. This has given me the capacity to grow both personally and professionally in my career and as a person.

You just wrapped New York Fashion Week, London FW, Milan FW, and Paris FW S/S '16. Phew! What were your top three favorite trends and shows?

My three favorite trends this season and the shows that correspond with them were:

Comfort Culture - Chloe, Balenciaga, Akris, Stella McCartney

Chanel ss 2016 paris

Chloe ss 2016

Venice Beach - BCBG Max Azria, MSGM, Anna Sui

Anna Sui ss 201

The Range - Coach, Mara Hoffman, Sacai, Chloe

Coach SS 2016 fashion week trends

My top four favorite shows overall were BCBG Max Azria, Chloe, Givenchy and Philosophy by Lorenzo Serafini.

Who do you turn to for fashion inspiration?

I look at everything from runway to street style, art, technology, as well as cultural and lifestyle movements. All of these things come into play when we narrow down what our next visionary or forecasting trends will be and these elements influence my own personal style as well.

What's a fun fact about you?

I just recently started boxing and think I may have found my calling in life! Haha, just kidding. It is a really great workout though, and a lot of fun to do with friends.

How do you get going in the mornings?

I am not a morning person at all! I usually hit the snooze button a few times before I make my way out of bed, but once I do I usually start my day with an Earl Grey tea. I just love the smell of it in the morning. On days that I need that extra kick, I'll swap out the tea for an almond milk cappuccino.

Boo-ed up, single, or Tindering?

Haha! I am currently single. I tapped into the whole Tinder thing, but met a few weirdos that kind of made me question the whole online dating world.

I could see that. Best advice you've ever received?

Honestly, I know it's really cliche, but "everything happens for a reason" is a saying that really resonates with me. My mom was the first person to tell me that and I truly believe it. There have been things that have occurred in my life that I believe have led me to be who I am today and to where I am.

Last beauty treatment or product you just bought/tried?

Kari Gran lip whip. I'm obsessed!
