This Beauty Routine Is Too Easy (and Safe!)
There is no confusion greater than the one of choosing—and then understand how to use—a beauty routine.
One that works, of course.
And is easy. And doesn't add a good 45 minutes between the time we turn off the Real Housewives and the time we face plant into our pillow.
One that only uses safe ingredients that won't disrupt our endocrine system (aka, eff with our hormones, the life force that must remain balanced if for no other reason than to ensure we can feign adulthood for another 24 hours) would be swell.
And we'd take something easy on the wallet too.
This sounds like a beauty product pipe dream. And had we not been introduced to Beautycounter recently, we'd agree with you.
But we were. And so we don't.
Because the Holy Grail of simple, safe, effective, affordable skin care routines is real, folks. It is real and it is glorious.
Beautycounter's mission is "to get safe products into the hands of everyone."
"At Beautycounter, we've banned more than 1,500 ingredients setting a new health and safety standard—all while ensuring our products perform, and that they're as indulgent as any luxe shampoo, lipstick or oil in the market."
We snapped up samples of their skin care ranges, both their Nourishing (for everyday, normal use) and Rejuvenating (their version of anti-aging) lines.
And we went IN. And now we're obsessed. So that's how that happened.
Turns out, our 30-something skin is basic, and is perfectly happy with the Nourishing Cream Cleanser (seriously squeaky clean without drying), Cream Exfoliator (it uses enviro- and skin-friendly beads), and Day Cream (makes our skin feel like buttah).
We also found, much to our delight, that the Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer works overtime to make our skin look even better, even when we're not wearing it. Like moisture to the max!
And Beautycounter only offers what you really need, so no overwhelm here. You could easily get your morning and night routines down to four products each. Easy!
Now, on to the good stuff that's stuffed into each formula.
On a scale of 1 to hippie dippy, we float comfortably somewhere in the middle. As in, we're real familiar with terms like "green cleaning products," "gluten-free," and "child's pose," and we espouse the benefits of a Vitamix. But we're not running off with the next commune that tours through town (much to our mother's chagrin).
We do, however, take our personal care product ingredients pah-retty seriously, and have long since dumped parabens and chemical sunscreens. But we can always improve.
But there's a lot—like, a LOT—of potentially hazardous ingredients in our personal care products, products that we use every day. So staying on top of it and keeping up with the latest reports and doing all the research to make informed decisions can prove taxing to even the most shrewd shopper [raises hand].
Beautycounter has done the work for us. Which, to us, is basically like having a personal assistant to handle your beauty routine. Um, amazing.
AND THE PRODUCTS ACTUALLY WORK?
